Annoying stuff

I think I've discovered my own hell-on-earth....Babies-R-Us.

What started out as a simple trip to buy 2 baby gates for our stairs and several gifts for a friend ended with my running out of the store, swearing never to return again. It was a combination of factors that made my trip a traumatic experience. Just say that no aisle numbers, an overwhelming variety of the same item(who knew there were 10 different types of baby thermometers?), and I had a heck of a time finding a sales associate to help me out. Let's not forget an entire store of pregnant women, hormones flowing full force, who stood, with their carts, strollers, and kids, in front of every display I was trying to view. Then they looked shocked when I politely asked them multiple times if I could squeeze in to get something.

The kicker was that I left without the darn baby gates. After weeding through 20 or so types, I finally found ones that would work for our stairs. I thought they were $39.99 each, which seemed like an incredible deal, given that most of the others were more expensive. Guess what? They were $79.99 each when I checked out at the register. At that point I just couldn't deal with going back to the gate section, so I left them at the checkout. I then promptly drove home and made myself a nice gin and tonic. Guess I'll have to get gates at some point. My vote is for Craigslist :-)

Oh Kimi--I want to say I love you! Welcome to motherhood too. Don't worry though--it gets easier. Try EBay too--you'd be surprised at the savings and may even find a local person with things to sell where you can eliminate shipping. You did describe that store perfectly though! I love your honesty. The stair gates that worked well for us--Nita has them too--are the wood ones that slide, but Marc had to rig something up to get it to attach correctly. We can help if you need it too! We use the spring loaded white with round holes--Safety First gates for other areas and it is nice to be able to attach them or use them as spring loaded kind to block off a room too. Hope that helps. Love you, Kim T.

Kim,
Can I just say I adore you :-)
Baby gates are at the top of the project list when we return next week. Much thanks to you and your secret planning the gates are one of the few items we need to get.

Oh poor Kim, this is one trip of many babe that you will be making to BRU. Although you really don't need so many "baby" things as you do toddler things. You are entering a whole new world of exploring!!! I know that i have given you many tips in the past on things to watch for so if you think of any more questions you know where to reach me. Good luck on your next visit and can't wait to hear back from you. Luv Shell

I like the craigslist idea! As you know I am a huge fan. I will start looking right now. Don't worry, Vincent will be taken care with no exposure to babies r us!
